Enter varsitynext, a web 2.0 application that provides free online interactive courses; a system that allows anyone from anywhere to create an online course with easy to add activities like chats, forums, quizzes and assignements. Users can freely sign up for courses provided by varsitynext staff or any other users of the site, interact with each other, do assignements , upload them and get grade reports from the course providers. On completion of a course a user gets a digital certificate graded A-F that (s)he ha graduated from a certain course. Currently there are over 30 courses including ICDL(all computer packages).
We have over 1800 courses on the waiting list and when all are activated we will be providing over 97% of all the courses at all the universities around the world. With enough staff and resources, this can be completed in 2-3 months.
No courses need to recur across the site as new teachers interested to teach an already existing course can just join hands with the other teachers. The VN staff approves all courses before they are listed I the public directory. Courses can vary from private to public, free to paid ( a teacher can choose to make money from his /her course by charging an access fee to users. But all courses provided by VN staff are free.
Collaborations
VN intends to collaborate with institutions like the government and the Chora Bizna team and Brand Kenya to provide public courses i.e Vision2030, Enterprenuership and Kenya Branding respectively.
All other learning institutions can also work with us and restrict access of their courses if need be.
The Motivation
The internet has practically revolutionised the livelihood of humanity and even changed the meaning of grand definitions in our day to day being. The dating scene for instance went from the traditional mode to the press-a-button-for-love technique where you register online and browse a couple of profiles to meet your match. Social networks have changed interactions and successfully erased the line between real and virtual friends and reduced them to an online friendlist that grows depending on how social one is.
The internet is itself a sea of information provided by people around the globe. The goal of varsitynext is to put relevant information together for users to go through and also analyse their understanding. We want to make it as interactive as possible and most importantly, free.
Varsitynext also aims to make make education instant. Instead of waiting to finnish your five year computer engineering degree at a certain university before becoming a professional web designer, you can instead learn web design at vn alongside your schoolwork and start your career. Varsitynext also features two magazines: one where any user can write about anything and another for research news from colleges and student of the week according inventions.
