Grant fund for techprenuers

There is a grant that has been finalized for techpreneurs to encourage and stimulate content generation for Kenya by Kenyans. Techpreneurs who are involved in ‘content generation’ business will benefit from the grant. KES 1.5 million has been earmarked for public sector content whereas KES2.5 million has been set aside for private sector content. For example, a techpreneurs may decide to start an internet portal that will help farmers with information about pricing, world markets, weather reports, fertilizer prices, farm inputs among others. The techpreneurs contacts the grant board with their proposal, which will be reviewed and the most deserving and viable ones will get the funds.

Through tandaa, this strategy proposes an ambitious growth rate of at least 100% by 2010. This strategy hopes to put in place measures that will encourage content generation. Through the private partnerships, we hope venture capitalists will feel compelled to offer support in the development of this subsector. Apart from local companies contributing to local content, this strategy also hopes to attract high quality companies in the areas of research and development and innovation with half of them setting up regionally with their headquarters in Kenya.

To this end, we hope the digital content industry will produce a ton of specifically skilled personnel in content development e.g. programmers, writers, internet-based film and music producers e.t.c. from these skilled personnel, we anticipate the growth of e-commerce businesses thereby creating employment.
